Galaxy War: Return of the Malum

Game Design

Document

Overview

A swarm of vicious insect aliens called the “Malum” are about to colonize the galaxy and the only way you can stop it is an all out assault on their territories. Use Turrets, Infantry, Mechs, Allied Aliens and more to annihilate multiple types of Malum before they can reach your home planet. Each Malum has its own special set of abilities and purpose, so be careful how you use your limited supply of minerals and gas as you battle the insect horde.

Our high-quality, graphics and art style combined with sci-fi action goodness will set our game apart from other tower defense games which tend to use a more cutesy or chibi art style. Our game will also focus highly on using skills at the proper times and at precise locations to achieve victory. It will require more player interaction than other tower defense games. Not only do you have to defend, after the defense is finished you must defeat the enemy outpost with your remaining troops, meaning that you will have to have prepared your base to be able to attack not only defend.

Genre

Tower Defense - Tower defense (or informally TD) is a subgenre of strategy video game where the goal is to defend a player's territories or possessions by obstructing the enemy attackers, usually achieved by placing defensive structures on or along their path of attack. This typically means building a variety of different structures that serve to automatically block, impede, attack or destroy enemies. Tower defense is seen as a subgenre of real-time strategy video games, due to its real-time origins, though many modern tower defense games include aspects of turn-based strategy. Strategic choice and positioning of defensive elements is an essential strategy of the genre.

Sci-Fi - Science Fiction is a genre of speculative fiction, typically dealing with imaginative concepts such as futuristic science and technology, space travel, time travel, faster than light travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life.

Story

Upon attempting to colonize yet another planet named Devios 6 a team of scientists hoped to try out their latest invention which would rapidly terraform a planet so it would be habitable by humans and other life forms that share earth’s atmosphere. Little did they know that the planet that they were attempting to terraform was already inhabited by an ancient race of insect like creatures called the Malum. The Malum as the stories go were vanquished long ago by an alien race known as the Xon who are said to be the guardians of our galaxy. The Xon were driven nearly to extinction and were said to have returned to their home planet hidden away in the furthest reaches of the galaxy. The Xon’s technology was so advanced that when pieces of their broken spacecrafts and weapons were found it took humanity 100 years to translate and unlock their secrets.
As the terraforming of Devios 6 began chemicals were released and drilling began. The vibrations of the drills and the release of terraforming chemicals changed the planet’s atmosphere which caused the planet’s temperature to rise triggering a dormant Malum egg to awaken. This specific egg was shot into space by a Malum queen hundreds of years ago as a fail safe for the Malum race. This egg contained a queen which is able to reproduce asexualy as long as it can find food. Unfortunately for our terraforming brethren the new queen had just woken up and she was feeling hungry.
1 month had passed since the planet had “gone dark” and all communication had been lost with the terraforming team, so military had sent out a scouting party of space marines to find out what is happening. Communication had also been lost with the first and even second scouting party so the military sent a full battleship battalion towards the planet. It was soon discovered that the whole planet had been infested with Malum. Once the battleships were seen by the queen she shot out 10 eggs into space toward nearby inhabited planets and the spread of the Malum began.
It is your job as an Allegiance commander to hunt down and destroy all Malum in the galaxy and bring peace back to the milky way. You have heard stories of the Xon and it is your mission along with killing the Malum to research and find the Xon’s home planet so we might ask for their aid.

Backstory

As a new commander you are still wet behind the ears and are criticized for making the smallest mistakes. People know you are a capable soldier but have yet to see you lead a victorious battle. How will you fair as a commander?

Core Gameplay Loop

Place units in set positions on the map in order to defend your forward base against a stream of incoming Malum Aliens.

Use the gas and minerals collected from your miner-bots and slain enemies to upgrade your units and their abilities or to build entirely new Units.

Use and target your unit's skills at the most opportune times in order to win.

If you would like to purchase units you may buy some units outright, however there is a Gacha system in the game where you can roll for a chance at an exclusive higher tier unit.

Mobius Gate: Gacha factor - User receives a random Alien Unit (poor, low, middle, mid-high, high, epic, legendary).
